Football is the most popular sport in America.  Stadiums across the country are passionately filled to capacity every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday during the season. Television networks pay significant sums of money for broadcast rights across all levels of the sport: professional, college and most recently, high school. Fan affinity is personal and generational. Even more broadly, one may argue that football transcends sport in America and is a bright, vital thread in the cultural fabric of our country.

This status did not occur overnight.

As with all cultural cornerstones, pioneers helped lay the foundation for the modern game. For every Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers, there were dozens of fleeting franchises. While their time may have been brief, their history is often just as rich and colorful.  Vault of American Football exists to tell the story of the forgotten properties that helped to shape America’s greatest game.
